Our Pillars
We've identified 6 areas around which we want to use the mentoring relationships to develop in our students, called our pillars.
Identity Development: Helping students learn about the intricacies of identity, how they wish to identify, and how to understand and learn about the identities of others.
Nutrition: Helping CHAMPS and CHAMPIONS to develop great eating habits and other tips to lead a healthy lifestyle!
Academic Empowerment: Exposing students to post-secondary environments and enabling them to succeed academically.
Career Development: We want students to begin to think about what their passions are now by exposing them to all sorts of areas so we can give them the tools to reach them!
Fiscal Understanding: Giving students the tools to understand their finances, manage money, and navigate the economy!
Community Service: Getting CHAMPS and CHAMPIONS out into Detroit communities giving back through service to others. Also, making sure our students are involved in their schools, a community they are in every day, and use those experience to grow!

All centered around the ideal of living, learning, and leading like a CHAMPION!
Our Process
TRAIN: Based on mentorship research from the National Mentoring Partnership, we've built a training program for our mentors, who also go through a rigorous application & interview process, so that they understand the complexity of what we’re undertaking and the communities we're working with.
PAIR: We also pair mentors in ways that allow us to maximize the benefits of the relationship in the relatively short time we have. DEVELOP: And we're continually developing the relationships and debriefing our mentors so that we can make sure our mentees and mentors are having a quality, positive experience! |
